Large pores

Many women struggle with large pores and want smooth, perfect skin like a doll. However, skincare products alone may not be enough to reverse them. Thankfully, anesthetic treatments can easily minimize pores.

What is Large Pores

Pores are openings in the skin where hair and sebum are released. If a pore is larger than 0.02m㎡, it is considered large and can create an uneven skin surface. Dead skin cells and keratin can also contribute to larger pores. Aging can also cause pores to appear larger as collagen and elasticity decrease. Dry skin can also lead to larger pores.

Causes

Large pores can be caused by many factors such as high sebum secretion, aging, sun damage, and skin conditions. Genetics can also play a role in pore size.

1. High Sebum Secretion

High sebum production from our skin’s oil glands is sensitive to various factors like weather, temperature, hormones, diet, sleep quality, and mood. When excess sebum and dead skin cells collect in the pores, they can appear larger than usual.

2. Ageing

As we get older, our skin naturally ages and loses collagen and elasticity. This causes our skin to stretch and sag, which makes our pores appear larger.

3. Enlarged Hair Follicles

Enlarged hair follicles can result from acne scarring or blockage by androgen. This causes pores to expand.

4. Prolonged smoking habit

Smoking constricts blood vessels and limits nutrient delivery to cells, causing skin dryness, premature aging, drooping skin, and enlarged pores.

5. Inadequate protection from sun

The sun’s UV radiation can damage collagen and cause collagen loss in the dermis. Inadequate protection can also lead to enlarged pores.

6. Clogged pores

Our skin produces new cells to replace old ones, but sometimes dead cells get trapped in pores. This can cause pores to become clogged with debris, sebum, and dead skin cells, making them enlarged.

7. Other reasons

Squeezing acne or pores can irritate them and cause excess oil production. It can also damage the skin and form scars, depressions, and larger pores. Clogged hair follicles can also become inflamed.

Symptoms

There are four types of large pores: keratin type, oily skin type, dry skin type and ageing skin type.

Enlarged Pores – Keratin skin type

Excess keratin can clog pores and trap sebum, leading to blackheads (small black dots) and whiteheads (small white bumps).

Enlarged pores – oily skin type

Excessive sebum can enlarge pores and make skin appear greasy, particularly in the T-zone (forehead and nose). This can lead to yellowish, dull skin and large, U-shaped pores.

Enlarged pores – dry skin type

Oval-shaped pores often occur on those with dry or dehydrated skin. Long flights can worsen this problem, making pores appear larger and more noticeable. Dry skin tends to have more texture than other skin types.

Enlarged pores – aging skin type

As skin ages, Y-shaped pores (resembling a water droplet) may appear. Collagen fibers and skin elasticity weaken, causing nearby pores to collapse and form lines.

Treatment

At Skinspire Laser&Skin Clinic, we will first evaluate your skin and analyze the cause of your large pores. Then, we will recommend a personalized treatment plan for optimal results.

RF Microneedling offered by Skinspire Laser&Skin Clinic, is an innovative treatment that uses radio frequency and microneedling technology. Fine needles create tiny punctures in the skin, and RF energy is delivered to the dermis to produce new collagen and elastin. It can improve skin texture, firmness, and resurfacing.

How does Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling Laser work

A sterile tip with gold-plated microneedles is used to stimulate skin healing. Microneedles are inserted into the skin, transmitting high frequency energy. The energy heats collagen fibres, damaging sebaceous glands and killing acne-causing bacteria. This reduces pore size, controls oil secretion, and improves acne.

Clear + Brilliant® is given with a cream to numb your skin. The treatment takes 20-30 minutes and your provider uses a laser to make tiny injuries under your skin. This causes your skin to repair itself and make new collagen. To help the process, your own blood’s platelet-rich plasma can be applied to the skin.
