Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet are wrinkles that appear at the corners of the eyes and temples. They are a visible sign of aging on the face and are caused by decreased endocrine system functionality, protein production, elastin fiber activity, collagen loss, and the formation of lines at the corners of the eyes.

Symptoms

As we get older, the skin around our eyes becomes more sensitive. This can cause wrinkles to form, especially around the corners of our eyes. These wrinkles can be caused by the muscles around our eyelids constantly moving.

Fine Lines

Dehydrated skin damages the skin’s structure and function as a barrier, leading to excessive water evaporation and epidermal collapse. Skin with dehydration issues shows signs of aging with fine and dry lines. The skin appears dry and tight, while the texture looks normal.

Dynamic crow’s feet

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by muscle contraction, which squeezes the skin around the muscle. As we age, skin elasticity decreases and normal facial expressions form heavier wrinkles around the eyes. Skincare products cannot treat wrinkles formed at the dermis. However, anesthetic treatments like botulinum toxin injection can effectively smooth dynamic crow’s feet.

Static crow’s feet

Ignoring dynamic wrinkles can cause long-term wrinkles in the future. Our skin remembers where the wrinkles are and how our skin folds during muscle movement. As we age, collagen production decreases, causing the skin to lose elasticity. Therefore, dynamic wrinkles may become permanent wrinkles that are visible even without facial expressions.

Causes

1. Hormonal Change

As we age, hormonal changes negatively affect the endocrine system’s functioning. This can result in a reduction of protein production, lower activity of elastin fibers in the skin’s dermis, and a loss of skin’s elasticity. Wrinkles can form around the eyes as a result.

2. Dry / Dehydrated Skin

The skin around our eyes is delicate and lacks protection, making it susceptible to dryness and dehydration. This can lead to the formation of lines around the eyes.

3.  Loss of Elasticity

As we age, our skin loses elastin, water, and fat, which causes wrinkles. Our eyes also contribute to this aging process through everyday movements like blinking and talking.

4. Loss of Collagen

Wrinkles and fine lines can be caused by damage to collagens in the skin. Collagens can be damaged by sunlight, ozone, or other oxidants. When collagens in the dermis are damaged, the skin loses support, resulting in depression.

5. Excessively Using the Eye Muscles

Using your eye muscles too much can cause fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging eyelids. This happens because your muscles contract every time you make a facial expression, like squinting or blinking.

6. Climate and personal factors

The loss of elastin can result in wrinkles around the eyes due to exposure to the sun, dry or cold weather, using hot water to wash the face, making excessive facial expressions, and smoking.

Treatment

Crow’s feet are unavoidable, but Skinspire Laser & Skin Clinic provides many options to alleviate them.

Botulinum toxin injection, offered by Skinspire Laser & Skin Clinic, can temporarily relax muscles by blocking nerve signals, releasing pressure at the nasolabial folds, and smoothing dynamic wrinkles.

How does Botulinum Toxin work

Botulinum toxin can relax muscles and prevent excessive muscle contractions, reducing the appearance of dynamic crow’s feet by eliminating the squeezing action on the skin.

Procedure

Who is it for

Thermage, offered by Skinspire Laser & Skin Clinic, uses radiofrequency technology to heat the dermis, stimulating the skin’s self-healing process. This promotes collagen production, resulting in tighter, smoother, lifted skin. Thermage is FDA and CFDA-approved for treating eyelids to slow down aging and restore youthful eyes.

How does Thermage work

Thermage is a treatment that uses radiofrequency to heat up the dermis to around 65-75℃, which stimulates self-healing and collagen regeneration. This results in firmer skin and fewer wrinkles.

Thread lift, offered at Skinspire Laser & Skin Clinic, is an effective way to lift the face and stimulate collagen production. It involves embedding absorbable threads into the skin to lift and tighten. This treatment is perfect for those looking to restore lifting ability, reduce sagging, and increase collagen regrowth. Eye lifting threads are also available.

How does Thread Lift work

The skin around the eyes lacks fat and only has muscles underneath. Smooth threads are used for eye treatment and embedded into the muscle layer as desired.

Procedure

Ultherapy offered by Skinspire Laser&Skin Clinic, is a non-surgical treatment that uses high-intensity ultrasound to rejuvenate the skin. It can tighten skin, increase elasticity, lift, reduce wrinkles, and even out pigmentation. It also helps reduce fat deposits, such as the double chin, and creates sharper facial contours.

How does Ultherapy work

Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy to trigger the body’s self-renewal mechanism and increase collagen and elastic fibers. This results in a reversal of aging signs.

RF microneedling, offered at Skinspire Laser & Skin Clinic, combines matrix application, microneedling, and radiofrequency technology to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the dermis. Treatment of the eye area can improve skin texture, firmness, and reduce wrinkles.

How does Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling Laser work

Gold-plated microneedles stimulate skin’s healing process. RF energy increases collagen and elastin production, leading to smoother skin. RF microneedling tightens skin, smooths crow’s feet, and eliminates lines.
